An introduction to self-love

Hi there, I'm starting this little blog as an accompaniment to my Tumblr blog, also called Cacti and self love. The aim is to track my own journey towards complete self love and maybe help one or two people on their journeys too.

So, what is self-love? 
Put simply, self-love is primarily about taking care of yourself - not just your physical needs, but your mental and emotional ones as well. This helps you achieve all-round good wellbeing. Self-love is also about respecting and appreciating who you are and who you are becoming. This means accepting your traits, strengths and even your flaws. That's not to say you have to accept your flaws without doing anything about them. An extension of self-love is self-improvement, which I'll post about later.

It's really not that complicated. Self-love is very similar to the love you have for others, your friends, family, significant other etc., but for yourself.

Why choose self-love?
Love is a powerful force. It affects lots of things, especially your thinking and outlook, which in turn impacts other things. Loving yourself makes you happier, because it means that you value yourself and your abilities, helping you to see more positives.


How do I start?
Well, it all starts with thoughts. Tell yourself that you love yourself, every morning when you wake up and every evening before you go to bed. Think about, or note down, your positive traits and your talents, anything that you like about yourself. Be kind to yourself and do things that make you happy.

I'll go into more detail about all of these things as I blog, starting with self care, which will be the focus for my next post. Anyway, thank you for reading and I hope I've been at least a little bit helpful.
